From Cameroon to the World

I am Wanda Jemly, or better yet, “Auntie Wanda.” Born in Cameroon, I spent my childhood traveling from one end of the country to the other, following my father’s job postings as a Presbyterian pastor. Even as a young child, I loved telling stories. I immigrated to Switzerland to pursue my studies and eventually settled there. I initially worked in the medical field and then in journalism, but I never lost my passion for storytelling, which I continued to share with those around me throughout the years. The success of my television reports helped boost my confidence, and I embarked on the adventure of writing children’s stories… and telling them live, at home, in schools, theaters, and at events. After more than twenty years living in Switzerland, I am now settled in British Columbia, back in the audiovisual field, animating my children’s stories and producing television content, notably “Tell Wanda Jemly a Story,” a series in which, this time, children share their stories with me. The series has been broadcast on TV5Monde since December 2018.

What I Do

My work spans live performances, digital content, and educational resources—all designed to bring the magic of storytelling to children everywhere.

Interactive storytelling shows for schools, libraries, festivals, and cultural events

Illustrated storybooks and audio recordings that bring tales to life at home

YouTube videos and online content for families to enjoy anytime, anywhere

The Creative Process

Each story I tell is the result of meticulous research, adaptation, and careful reflection. I find my inspiration in everyday life experiences, always aiming to connect with today’s young audiences and empower them to express themselves on issues that matter to them. My workspace is filled with books, paper, and pens, and the decor changes according to my inspiration and my surroundings
